Pernah nggak sih ngerasa hidup lagi nge-lag? Lo udah coba banyak cara biar “produktif” tapi malah makin capek. To-do list dibikin, tapi ujung-ujungnya jadi dekorasi digital. Reminder bunyi tiap jam, tapi kerjaan masih belum disentuh. Rasanya kayak buka halaman penting di internet tapi malah muncul tulisan “Error 404: Page Not Found”.

Gue sering banget ngerasa kayak gitu. Apalagi pas skripsi. Duduk depan laptop 6 jam, tapi yang keisi cuma 2 kalimat. Satu dari Google Translate, satunya typo. Lama-lama gue mikir, jangan-jangan bukan caranya yang salah. Tapi cara mikir gue-nya yang kebalik.

Nah, dari sinilah gue kenalan sama konsep yang katanya sering dipakai sama orang-orang pinter, investor top, sampai filsuf zaman dulu: Inversion Thinking. Alias, mikirnya dibalik. Alih-alih nanya, “Gimana ya biar hidup gue lebih bener?” — lo coba tanya, “Gimana caranya bikin hidup gue makin berantakan?” Nah dari situ, lo tinggal hindari jawabannya.

Absurd? Iya. Tapi ternyata bikin lebih masuk akal daripada nonton video “7 langkah sukses jam 5 pagi” tapi bangunnya masih jam 10.

Kalau Dipikir Lagi, Hidup Emang Sering Error

Bayangin lo buka link penting dari dosen atau klien, terus muncul tulisan: Error 404. Panik. Refresh. Coba pakai mode incognito. Masih error. Tapi lo tau kan, error itu kadang bukan karena kita bego. Bisa jadi link-nya yang mati. Atau file-nya udah dipindahin. Atau server-nya ngambek.

Nah, hidup juga gitu. Kadang lo udah niat, udah semangat, tapi hasilnya nihil. Bukan karena lo payah. Bisa jadi karena ekspektasi lo ngaco, atau lo lagi jalanin hidup orang lain, bukan hidup lo sendiri.

Kalau error di browser disolusinya dengan balik ke homepage, mungkin error di hidup bisa disolusikan dengan balik mikir: jangan ngejar dulu, coba hindari dulu. Jangan mikirin sukses, pikirin dulu: “Hal bego apa yang harusnya gue stop?”

Refleksi: Kadang Yang Kita Kejar Justru Bikin Kita Nggak Kemana-Mana

Gue pernah kejebak dalam fase “produktif pura-pura”. Nulis di notion, pasang sticky notes warna-warni, nonton video motivasi sampai subuh. Tapi isi otak gue kayak iklan pop-up: banyak, berisik, dan nggak relevan. Setiap hari gue mikir, “Gimana caranya jadi lebih produktif?” Tapi makin dipikirin, makin banyak yang nggak kelar.

Sampai suatu saat, gue berhenti nanya “bagaimana cara berhasil?” dan mulai nanya, “apa sih hal yang dijamin bikin gagal?” Ternyata jawabannya lumayan banyak dan... familiar.

Coba Hindari Dulu yang Ini:

1. Buka semua tab tapi nggak ngerjain satupun.
Fokus itu kayak sinyal wifi: kadang kuat, kadang ngilang pas dibutuhin.

2. Niat nulis tapi malah buka YouTube "biar cari inspirasi".
Gue pernah niatnya riset, eh ujungnya nonton video kompilasi kucing naik motor.

3. Nunggu mood, padahal mood-nya lagi cuti.
Kadang kerja dulu baru mood-nya nyusul, bukan sebaliknya.

4. Overplanning sampe nggak mulai-mulai.
Gue bikin to-do list, tapi malah jadi “to-ignore” list. Rapih sih. Tapi kosong.

5. Bandingin hidup sama orang yang bahkan lo nggak kenal beneran.
Scroll IG dan liat orang “udah sukses di umur 20” itu kayak ngeliat ending film tanpa nonton prosesnya.

Penutup: Kadang, Jawabannya Emang Harus Dibalik

Inversion thinking bukan jaminan hidup jadi gampang. Tapi setidaknya, dia bantu kita berhenti ngikutin template orang lain. Dia ngajak kita balik mikir: bukan tentang nambah ini-itu, tapi tentang buang hal-hal yang udah jelas bikin hidup kayak error 404.

Jadi, kalau hari ini hidup lo rasanya nge-lag dan ngaco, mungkin lo nggak butuh “motivasi baru”, tapi cuma perlu berhenti sejenak dan nanya: “Apa ya kebodohan yang lagi gue ulang tiap hari?” Habis itu... ya hindari aja dulu. Gitu doang.

I’ve been there — especially during my thesis days. I’d sit in front of my laptop for 6 hours and end up with two sentences: one from Google Translate and the other a typo. Eventually, I stopped blaming my methods. Maybe my way of thinking needed a reboot.

That’s when I stumbled on something used by philosophers, investors, and people who seem way smarter than me: Inversion Thinking. Instead of asking “How can I fix my life?”, ask “How can I totally ruin it?” Then... avoid those answers.

It sounds dumb. But weirdly, it made more sense than watching “7 Steps to Succeed by 5 AM” when I still wake up at 10.

Sometimes Life Just Breaks

Imagine clicking a crucial link from your boss or lecturer — boom: Error 404. You panic. Refresh. Go incognito. Still dead. But hey, maybe it's not your fault. Maybe the file moved. Maybe the server's moody.

Life’s like that too. Sometimes you try, and it still flops. Doesn’t mean you suck. Maybe your expectations are off. Maybe you’re living someone else’s version of “success.”

Just like you hit “back to homepage” when a link is broken, maybe in life, you also need to stop chasing and start thinking backward. Not “how do I succeed?” but “what obvious dumb stuff should I stop doing?”

Reflection: Sometimes Chasing More Gets You Nowhere

I used to fake being productive. Pretty Notion boards. Motivational videos till 2 AM. Sticky notes everywhere. But my brain felt like a pop-up ad: noisy, irrelevant, and crashing my focus. I asked “how to be more productive” every day — and got nothing done.

Then I stopped asking how to win. I asked how to lose. The answers were surprisingly clear... and familiar.

Try Avoiding These First:

1. Opening all tabs and doing nothing.
Focus is like Wi-Fi: strong at random times, weak when you need it most.

2. “Researching” on YouTube and ending up watching cats on scooters.
True story.

3. Waiting for the mood, but your mood’s on vacation.
Sometimes you start first. Mood follows later. Hopefully.

4. Overplanning till you never start.
I made a to-do list. It became a “to-ignore” list. Pretty. But empty.

5. Comparing your life to someone you don’t even know.
Instagram shows people’s endings. You’re still on chapter 3. Relax.

Ending: Maybe It’s Time to Flip the Script

Inversion thinking won’t magically fix your life. But it helps you stop living by someone else’s template. It’s not about adding more tips and hacks — sometimes, it’s about removing the nonsense that’s dragging you down.

So if your life feels like a digital crash today, maybe you don’t need another pep talk. Maybe you just need to pause and ask: “What dumb habit am I repeating today?” Then... stop. That’s it.
