Inversion Thinking untuk Orang Malas: Kenapa Hindari Itu Lebih Ringkas dari Mengejar Ini

Gue pernah bikin to-do list yang isinya niat mulia: nulis, olahraga, nyuci piring, bahkan meditasi. Tapi ujung-ujungnya malah jadi to-ignore list. List-nya rapi, niatnya suci, tapi niat doang ternyata nggak bisa disuruh kerja.

Sampai suatu malam gue baca ulang tulisan Charlie Munger — iya, omnya Warren Buffett itu — yang bilang: “Kalau mau hidup waras, pikirin dulu gimana caranya gagal. Abis itu, ya tinggal hindari.” Kayak gitu. Simpel, tapi kok nyentil.

Inversion thinking tuh kayak mikir, “Apa aja sih yang dijamin bikin hidup gue nyungsep?” Terus lo tulis. Terus lo hindari. Udah. Gitu doang.

Pasrah Tapi Sadar: Realita Dunia Digital

Tips Nyeleneh Tapi Masuk Akal (Kadang)

1. Tulis daftar kebiasaan jelek lo, bukan goal lo.

4. Jangan mulai dari motivasi, mulai dari penghindaran. Lo nggak harus semangat. Cukup sadar bahwa kalau lo buka YouTube buat "1 video aja", lo bakal kelar 3 jam kemudian. Hindari dulu.

5. Gagalin dulu rencana gagal lo. Kalau lo udah niat ngeskip makan siang biar nonton series, gagalinnya. Bikin nasi goreng. Nggak usah fancy.

Inversion Thinking for Lazy People: Why Avoiding is Simpler Than Chasing

I once made a to-do list with noble intentions: writing, working out, washing dishes, even meditating. But in the end, it became a to-ignore list. The list was neat, the intentions pure — but good intentions don’t do the dishes.

Then one night, I stumbled upon a quote from Charlie Munger — yes, Warren Buffett’s partner — that said: “All I want to know is where I’m going to die, so I’ll never go there.” So blunt. So genius.

From that point on, I thought: what if I stopped chasing big dreams and just started avoiding the obvious disasters?

Why Think Backward?

Life isn’t always about chasing shiny goals. Sometimes it’s more important to just not fall into the same hole every Monday. If you already know scrolling TikTok for an hour gives you anxiety, then maybe skip that first — before diving into “billionaire morning routines.”

Inversion thinking is like asking, “What are the guaranteed ways to mess up my life?” Then you write them down. Then avoid them. That’s it.

Calm But Aware: The Digital Reality

We live in a world where if you're not busy, you feel like a failure. But maybe all you needed was ten minutes sitting on the floor staring at the ceiling. But you can't. Because your phone is buzzing, your notifications are wild, and everyone seems to be “building their personal brand.”

The funny part is, the more we want to be productive, the more stressed we feel about not doing enough. Then we hunt for “lifehacks” that make us even more tired. “I tried this focus trick. Worked for 10 minutes. Then I reorganized my pen drawer.”

Weird But Sensible Tips (Sometimes)

1. Write down your bad habits instead of your goals. You already know what keeps you stuck. Instead of “wake up at 5am”, try “don’t sleep at 2am scrolling absurd Reels.”

2. Imagine your worst-case life scenario. Not to freak out — but to go: “I don’t want that. So what can I do to not get there?”

3. Turn off notifications. For real. Because “Focus is like WiFi: strong sometimes, gone when you need it most.”

4. Don’t start with motivation. Start with avoidance. You don’t need to be pumped. Just realize that “1 video” on YouTube = 3 hours gone. Avoid that trap first.

5. Sabotage your own self-sabotage. If you’re planning to skip lunch to binge a show, mess up that plan. Make fried rice. Nothing fancy. Just don’t stay hungry and moody.

A Not-So-Wise Ending

Sometimes what we need isn’t a roadmap to success — but a map of all the traps to avoid. And often, the fastest way to stay human is to stop pretending to be a robot.

If you find this piece relatable, mildly helpful, or just amusing — share it. Maybe your friend needs permission to underachieve today too.
